Broken A YA Paranormal Romance Novel Volume 1 of the Reflections Books eBook Dean Murray

So, when I picked up this book, I had this idea in my head of what it might be about, but I was so wrong.

For me, this book started out a bit slow-paced. There were small hints thrown out in the first half of the novel and all I wanted was to know what is really going on. These hints are what compelled me to continue reading, even late into the night to finally know what happens.

And I was so not disappointed! The plot thickens halfway through, we get a glimpse into what is really going on, we yell at the book because we need to know more. And then it ends - I want more. *sigh*

Adriana is the typical damsel in distress, however, she's also strong-willed and will not be pushed around or felt sorry for.

Britney is the first one to get closer to her as a friend in this new school, but we realize quite soon that she does not really want to be her friend, and is only using Adri for her own gain.

Then there is Alec and Brandon, the opposing guys, who both seem to want Adri. Here, all I'll say is: everything is not what it seems - don't let appearances fool you... There is a power struggle between these two and their friends that seems to go beyond simple school rivalries. There are small hints dropped, but from Adri's point of view, you are somewhat in the dark and curiosity kept me up to find out why.

There is obviously a love triangle too - between Adri, Alec, and Brandon. Feels typical at first. Soon you'll have no idea who is the good guy and who is the bad guy.

The ending kinda felt truly anti-climatic after the full-scale build up to this climax. Something more needed to happen in my opinion, but also, this leaves you wanting more and the story continues in Torn - from Alec's point of view...

Broken A YA Paranormal Romance Novel Volume 1 of the Reflections Books eBook Dean Murray Reviews

I JUST finished reading Broken - and I loved it! I can't wait to get into the next book in the series! I couldn't put the book down as there was growing tension between rival groups, things weren't as they seemed, and... Adriana seemed to finally get a rein on her stress.

Adriana ends up at a new school in a small town where it seems they are less friendly than usual, so being the new girl is tougher than usual. Everything we learn about Sanctuary and the others, we learn through Adriana's eyes... She believes she is a tiny nobody not worth paying attention to; yet, she finds the courage to stand up for a tiny girl getting bullied as others just seem to circle and watch. From there, things just aren't the same! I can't say too much more as you need to read for yourself in order to enjoy the story.

What I enjoy about the book is that we learn things as our main character does... we feel what she feels... and we hope that there has to be something good comes out of her trials. We learn there are two rival groups of shifters. We also learn that it's not easily clear cut which group are the good guys and which are the bad guys. The story brings out many different layers of the town and the people.

This is an enjoyable paranormal story for a nice escape! The romance is a bit cleaner than most, which I appreciate. It has a feel of innocence as the romance awakens... I loved reading a shifter story that had romance where I could enjoy rather than blush as I read it, you know? I have just started the next book in this series because I want to see where this leads!
Okay read but not great. I agree with some reviewers saying about how the book just talks about the female H daily school routine and the constant panic attacks I was totally confuse at the beginning on why this was considered a paranormal since it was just about a girl who passes out all the time whenever she thought about her father and twin sister's death. Really didn't find out how they died either (maybe accident I think). What confuse me is that the female H hated being called "Adri" for the first 60% of the book and then after that she was okay with it and that she stopped passing out after she started dating Alec. I wanted to stop reading this book but I forced myself to continue since I really wanted to know why this was called "paranormal". Needless to say, I found out at about 60% into the story. It's all about animal shifters. A lot of potential really if the drawn out passing out panic attack and school routine was kept to 1-2 chapters. I am okay with reading about school stuff but not when it's covered every single page until at the halfway. The plot had potential and I did enjoy the story line so I guess that's why I gave this a two. The writing could have been better grammatically. Oh yeah, I tried reading the new version of the story "Hunted" The Dark Reflection, but it was worse than this. At least this book flowed somewhat and the dialogue was tolerable even though it was boring. Will I recommend this book? I you don't mind being confused at the start of the chapter and like to read about daily routines/school stuffs for like 50% of the book, this book might work for you. For me, I won't be investing anymore time on this series.
