I really enjoyed this book. It is a lighthearted easy read, and makes for a wonderful weekend read by the pool. It manages to peek curiosity without getting too heavy, and is a definate page turner.
Couldn't get past chapter 2. This was picked by a store owner for a book club bc we are locals. None of us finished it because we just didn't really care for it. I feel bad leaving a poor review but I can't recommend it.
I loved reading this book! The main character is a strong, assertive, and clever woman with a sense of humor. It's not easy to find great books with such a character these days. The suspense of the plot as well as the engaging, well-written story held my attention, and the exotic locations of New Orleans and Romania let me travel from my comfy sofa.The author's descriptions of Romania truly made me feel like I traveled along with her to each place she visited, and I learned so much about the people and culture. If you love mystery books that are suspenseful, books with strong and realistic characters, and also love to travel- this book is for you! Grab a glass of wine, and travel to Romania to help Jeni (the main character) solve the art heist! I can't wait to read the next book, and see what mystery Jeni will try to solve.
I absolutely loved this book! It took me on a journey through Europe that I have never seen. I look forward to traveling Eastern Europe one day. Until then, I will continue to enjoy your books!
A great story with vivid descriptions of Romania and Eastern Europe that make you want to book a trip! You can imagine the main character as Nancy Drew who grew up to be Doris Day - trying to solve international mysteries while maintaining her social calendar as a diplomat's wife!
ever since John Grisham, a Mississippi lawyer, gained huge sucess as a writer of fiction, it seemed every lawyer in the state thought they too could be a best selling novelist. unfortunately almost all of the ones who tried failed --- except for Jane Golden. her novels are entertaining and enlightening -- really even educational -- her vivid descriptions of international venues and the people who live there allow the reader to feel as if they have actually made the journey with her. as an avid mystery reader and lawyer myself, i praise her writing ability and highly recommend both of her novels!
Fantastic book - a really fun read. Likable characters move the plot to an unexpected ending, at least the ending was a complete surprise to me. In fact, the whole art heist subplot leaves you thinking "what is the truth of the disappearance?"
The exotic locations and quixotic places described in the book really steal the show but it is also every bit as hilarious as Golden's first novel, "Secrets in the Vines." I have never heard of this "travel mystery" genre but I found it to be a really fresh concept. I am ready for the next installment - when is the third book coming out? I can't wait.
